If you can’t decide whether to post that one picture on Instagram, then the Drafts feature might be a good tool for you to use. Find out what Drafts are and how to find them within the app in this blog post.

How to View Drafts on Instagram
If you’ve been an Instagram user for quite some time now, chances are that you have a few Drafts already saved. It’s a useful tool because you can save your pictures to post later on.
The process of saving and finding your Drafts on Instagram is actually pretty easy. Here’s how:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Click the “+” on the top right-hand corner of your screen.
- Select “Post.”
- On the same tab as “Recents,” you will also see the “Drafts” tab. Click on it and here is where your Drafts will appear.
If you don’t see the Drafts tab anywhere, then this probably means that you don’t have any Drafts saved. Once you save a post or two, then they’ll appear here.
How to Save Drafts on Instagram
If you decide you don’t want to post the picture you just edited and captioned, no worries, you can just save it as a Draft. The option to save your picture as a Draft will only appear if you edit the post in some way (i.e., edit with a filter, caption, tag, etc.).
Next time you want to save a post as a Draft, follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Click the “+” on the top right-hand corner of your screen.
- Select “Post.”
- Choose the picture you want to post, click “Next,” then choose a filter or edit it.
- After clicking “Next” once again, you’ll be on the screen where you can write your caption, tag people, or add a location. So, just fill in what you want to be saved in the Draft here.
- Instead of clicking “Share,” hit the back arrow in the top left-hand corner of your screen instead. Click it again, and a box will appear that lets you choose to either discard the picture or save it as a draft.
- Click “Save Draft.”
Your picture will now be saved under your Drafts tab which you can access at any time to post.
How to Edit Drafts on Instagram
If you want to go back into one of your Drafts and edit it to either look or say something different, it’s almost the same process as if you were going to upload a post for the first time.
Here’s how to edit a Draft:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Click the “+” on the top right-hand corner of your screen.
- Select “Post.”
- Tap “Drafts.”
- Click on the post you want to edit and click “Next.”
- In the top left-hand corner where the picture you want to post is shown, you’ll see a blue “Edit” button. Click on it and edit how you want.
- At this point, you can either post the picture by clicking “Share” or putting the post back into your drafts. Instagram will automatically save the draft again after you edit it, so you don’t need to hit the back arrow to save it again.
How to Delete Drafts on Instagram
Sometimes you want to delete a Draft altogether, which is fine. Just follow this process that has similar steps as before:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Click the “+” on the top right-hand corner of your screen.
- Select “Post.”
- Tap “Drafts.”
- On the right-hand side, you will see “Manage,” so click on that.
- Click “Edit” in the top right-hand corner.
- Select the unwanted drafts and click on “Done” in the top right-hand corner.
- Click “Discard posts” when the “Are you sure?” tab pops up.
And that’s it! The posts you selected from your Drafts will be deleted.
How to Save Story Drafts on Instagram
Instagram Stories is another feature where you can save Drafts. The process is almost the same as saving posts as Drafts, here’s how to do it:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Either click on the blue “+” near your profile icon in the top left-hand corner or the “+” in the top right-hand corner and click “Story.”
- Choose and edit whichever picture you want, then click “Done” in the top right-hand corner.
- After editing, click the “<” in the top left-hand corner and click “Save draft.”
Keep in mind that you can only save posts or stories to your Drafts if you edit them in some way, otherwise, Instagram will ignore it because it’s technically the same picture that’s in your camera roll.
How to See Story Drafts on Instagram
If you want to go back and look at your Story Drafts, the steps to get there are pretty simple. Here’s how:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Either click on the blue “+” near your Story icon in the top left-hand corner or the “+” in the top right-hand corner and click “Story.”
- Your Drafts will appear as the first box to the right of the camera icon. Tap on it to see them all.
- If you want to edit one of your Drafts, click on the Story and edit it how you want. Once you’re done editing, click “Done,” then the “<” in the top left-hand corner, then “Save changes.”
- If you want to delete one of your Drafts, click on “Select” in the top right-hand corner of your screen, then select the Stories you want to delete, then click on the red “Delete” button on the bottom of your screen.
Conclusion
Whether you’re a content creator that edits your posts in advance or someone who just can’t decide on posting that one picture, using Instagram’s Draft feature is a wonderful option.
It will allow you some time to think about your content before posting it for the world to see, so draft posts before hitting that share button.
