Instagram will automatically save these settings and the users’ content will no longer appear in your feed.
How to Mute Stories on Instagram
If you want to mute someone’s stories as well, there are two ways to do so. The first is to just repeat the same process as you would for muting their posts.
Here’s how:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Click the magnifying glass on the bottom of your screen.
- Search for the user who you want to mute and click on their profile.
- Click on where it says “Following” and a drop-down will appear.
- Click on “Mute.”
- Use the toggle button to mute their Stories.
- Click the back arrow and that’s it!
The second way is to mute someone’s story just by holding in the story and pressing mute, here’s how:
- Open the Instagram app.
- On the home screen, find the story you want to mute in the story bar at the top. Press and hold on the user until a menu box appears.
- Press “Mute” then press “Mute Story.”
- You’ll see here that you can also just mute both their stories and posts from this tab as well. If this way is easier for you then try it, and the result will still be the same.
How to Unmute Posts on Instagram
If you end up wanting to unmute someone’s posts on Instagram, you’ll just have to go back in and repeat the same process you did when you muted them.
Here’s how:

This process is a little more difficult than the first because it will only work if that person posted a story at the time you’re trying to mute them. Otherwise, their profile won’t appear in the story bar so you won’t be able to mute them this way.
Of course, muting someone this way is harder too because you have to go searching for them in all of the stories that appear at the top. The result will still be the same, so it’s up to you on how you want to go about muting someone.
