How to Change Instagram Password

Whether you forgot your Instagram password or just want to update it for safety reasons, the process of changing it is pretty simple. You can use both the mobile app and Instagram website to do so, but don’t worry – we’ll go through how to do it all.

How to Change Instagram Password

There aren’t any restrictions as to when you can change your Instagram password. You can do it right now or tomorrow, either on your phone or website.

We’ll start by going through how to change your password on your mobile app, as that’s probably the easiest and most convenient way for users.

  • Open the Instagram app.
  • Click your profile icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
  • Click the three horizontal line menu bar in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  • Select “Settings.”
  • Select “Security,” then “Password.”

Instagram will then send an email to the email address that you have associated with your account with a link to reset your password. It doesn’t take long for the email to come in, so head on over to your email after pressing “Okay” to that notification.

  • Click the blue “Reset password” button after you open the email Instagram sent you.
  • Instagram will take you to a window where you’ll be able to create a new password. After entering your new one, hit “Reset Password.”

When creating your new password, keep in mind that it will have to be at least 6 characters long and should have a combination of numbers, letters, and other special characters.

How to Change Instagram Password on Desktop

Here’s how:

  • Log in to your Instagram account using the website

  • On the left-hand side, click “Change password.”
  • Enter in your old password, then your new password, and then click “Change password.”

You’ll notice that this way is a lot easier because you don’t have to go through the process of receiving an email and going through that link instead. The catch here is that oftentimes, users won’t be using their desktop to scroll on Instagram, so they add that extra step for security on the mobile app.
