7 Ways To Take Better Instagram Photos

You don’t have to be a professional photographer to create a gorgeous feed. Here are 7 ways to take better Instagram photos that will impress your Instagram followers!

Use Natural Lighting

It’s difficult to revive a picture that’s poorly lit, no matter which filter you apply. There are some exceptions to this rule, but for the most part natural lighting results in the best pictures. If you are unable to rely on natural lighting, try to make sure whatever you are shooting is well lit.

Avoid Over-Editing

Be careful when adding in effects and applying filters. Instagram allows you to choose how much of each filter and effect to apply, so avoid applying these to a photo at 100 percent if it makes the image look unnatural. Remember, less is more!

Avoid Overexposure

If you plan on taking pictures outside when its sunny, don’t shoot with the sun directly in the shot. Instead, try to have the light hitting the subject directly.

Follow the “Rule of Thirds”

The rule of thirds is a classic rule of photography. It requires breaking up your picture into squares and then placing points of interest in the intersections or along the lines so the photo is balanced.

Luckily, smartphones have grid tools to help you follow this rule easily. Turn on the grid setting on your phone to access this feature and help you map out your shots.

Follow a Theme or Unique Style

Dedicating your page to something specific will make it more appealing to other users, whether it’s all pictures of delicious food, goofy pictures, or cool travel photos. Choosing to take photos of the same subject material will naturally result in a consistent theme for your page.

Follow a Color Scheme

This makes for a more visually appealing feed in which all of the pictures seem to fit together. You can achieve this by using the same filters on all of your photos, using the same backgrounds or props, etc. A general rule to follow is to choose whether to stick to a colorful palette, warm tones, cool tones, or neutral colors for all of your photos.

Use Editing Apps

Instagram is great for editing photos, but for even more options try using apps like VSCO or Lightroom to edit your photos. Both are free, easy to use and offer a variety of extra effects to add to your photos for a gorgeous finish.
